TURN THE PAGE// Write Your Story

Quote image reading “turn the page”

When we read a book sometimes we struggle to keep reading, while other times it’s so compelling we breeze through in hours. When you stop reading it’s because you either; finish the book, choose to read something else- or a passage resonates so profoundly it stops you in your place, jolts your insides alive and you can’t turn the page until you move through or let go.

All day we’re presented with opportunities to tell a different story, to make new choices that move the narrative of our lives in any direction. And this can be as simple as a shift in perspective, changing how we think about ourselves or our situation. But when the time comes to write our next page after a fall, we can think of any failure, heartbreak or disappointment, not as a failure, but as an opportunity to redirect, to tell a different kind of story- maybe one of courage.

We write our own stories, no one else can do that for you. If your circumstances are static or you've made a mess of them, you can make a new choice at every instant. And if you’re not ready to make a new choice, you can simply have the intention or desire to see it differently. Making the decision to turn the page, let go and step forward is one of the most powerful things we can do. And that doesn’t mean the first half of the story didn’t happen, you just welcome it into your arms instead of repressing, rejecting or denying, and then you step forward and make a new choice.

You just have to keep getting back up, over and over again, writing your story, deciding what you want to read. Is it a story of courage and being brave? Risking, loving, losing, jumping and falling, then rising? Because that seems like a way better story then the one where you don’t listen to your heart, where you stay stuck, proud or timid. It’s easy to stay where we are because it’s comfortable, but is that the kind of story you want to read? When we soften, take a breath, really feel where we’re at and get out of our minds, we can decide if it’s a place we want to stay- or if we want to stop, course correct and start writing a different story. Turn the page, say yes to your life.
